興国寺墓地

高台にあるのでとても静かで良い場所です。 階段で上るのがちょっと大変ですが登った甲斐がある眺めです。 鹿児島の著名人のお墓があります。

伊地知 季安の墓があります。

My phone was dead, my soul dead long before. Looking for a shortcut (and adventure), I blindly bushwhacked from a neighborhood street into the graveyard, so glorious. I walked around a bit pretending I could read the tombstones and soon realized how incredible the setting was. Green grass surrounded the grave sites, thick deep green trees surrounding the whole valley stretching up into the valley...just beautiful. What this? Power and water? Plug in the phone and wash my face. Right on! Oh, a cleverly stashed jar of sake? One step closer to communicating with my temporary neighbors. I hung out for 30 minutes while my phone charged, watched a gentleman on a scooter climb the steep street to his garden, and got surprised by a news crew who knew what I had just learned...this graveyard is a highlight stop I'll make again.
